Website Freeze When Closing On IE6

Greetings,

Just recently I have had an occasional problem that started about two weeks ago, where when I surf the internet as per usual - the website will freeze when I go to close it or the page goes blank (white) after I am done. It will close on a second attempt by closing on the taskbar, but if I have one or more websites open in addition to the one in question - it will close those websites as well as I assume IE is crashing.

I have done the usual spyware, trojans, virus checks and all appears to be good. I have considered add ons, but I am not sure what adds on are required and which ones are not needed. I do have a Google Toolbar, but I have had it for a long time now and there has been no problem.

I noticed too that when websites do freeze up, the rest of my computer goes slower as well - so if I am using a word document for example and making changes, it might freeze for a few seconds or takes longer "thinking". Once I close IE, everything is back to normal.

As for my computer:

Windows XP Service Pack 2
HP Compaq Presario
AMD Sempron Processor
104 GB Total/67.7 Used

I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Thank you.

Just run malware bytes, remove all items found. and you will want to upgrade to a newer version.

windows update..

Done and done - no errors found. Anything look suspicious in the logfile? What else might you suggest

Those are the entries i see. Run Combofix, then malwarebytes, then run HiJack This again and post a new log.

Have you tried updating to IE8? You're 2 browsers behind eh:)

My computer is already slow, so I don't need to bog it down right now IE8. Plus this problem has only been happening for a couple of weeks, so I assume it's something that has been added to my computer, but that I can't find yet. Besides, IE8 has a ton of bugs right now if what I have read is right.

IE6 has more bugs than IE8. In fact Microsoft has dropped support for IE6 altogether and also there hasnt been any patches to IE6 since IE7 was put out to users. So you are running a very insecure browser that has many flaws that will never get patched. The only reason you do not hear of the bugs in IE6, it is no longer supported and no longer considered a viable browser to be used.

In regards to Combofix - i just want to make sure i am not going to make matters worse. These kinds of warnings can be scary:

You should not run ComboFix unless you are specifically asked to by a helper. Also, due to the power of this tool it is strongly advised that you do not attempt to act upon any of the information displayed by ComboFix without supervision from someone who has been properly trained. If you do so, it may lead to problems with the normal functionality of your computer.

Are they just protecting themselves in case computers start crashing after using the program or is there really nothing to worry about?

In addition, what if I just have Hijackthis fix/delete the items in question?

Yha, thats a standard liability clause to protect their arse. Both make backup points, so don't worry.

Out of curiousity, what are your comp specs?

Have you tried firefox? I'm just wondering if theres new scripting stuff that isn't ie6 compatible thats all.
