Web Browser Speed Test Shows W7 RTM Slower than XP SP3

Betanews has a Windows Web browser test suite that they used to compare browsing speeds of the five major browser families on Windows 7 Build 7600 (RTM), XP SP3, and Vista SP2. What they found was that XP SP3 is faster than W7 RTM by 13% and Vista SP2 by 29%. Hooey or not? Read their rationale, testing methodology, and results and make your own conclusions.

That reflects a decline in the speed gap between XP and Win7 of about 1%, from tests conducted comparing XP-based browsers to those running on Windows 7 Release Candidate Build 7100. Some browsers are faster in Windows 7 RTM, although Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2 ran just a tick slower.

1% only isn't much of a problem for me. Most people wouldn't really care, however there are some who probably would whine at the extra percentage.

I imagine these results only came about because many programs and such are not yet optimised by their developers for Windows 7.
