I use Firefox and only Firefox. When I run Ccleaner , there are entries (lots of them ) for Internet Explorer temporary internet files , cookies , history , and index.dat files. This must mean that Internet Explorer is accessing the internet? How can I disable it?
Should I disable it?

Next time before running CCleaner, checkout IE history to see what pages it has gone to
depending upon your version of Windows and Service Pack, you can uninstall IE

But I wouldn't do that, as IE is still useful for things such as Windows Update and many other sites like Drivers and System Information online tools, live Antivirus scans; this list goes on
Although, many will say Firefox can do that if you install this or that, Internet Explorer is perfectly ready from day1

They are probably offline page views like PDFs or possibly even Windows or Adobe Updates
Best to check History from the IE toolbar

If the IE categories are checked in CCleaner it will still flush them... even if they are empty.

As kimsland said, IE is a part of Windows and will always have something in it. such is the nature of the beast.
