Unable to access Hotmail/Secured sites with any browser.

I've got a friend who let another friend borrow her laptop, now she can't access any website that you have to sign in to view, or hotmail. At first she couldn't even access the internet, but after I released and renewed her IP info (she's on wireless) she could connect just fine, but the problem with the secure websites still exists. We have tried everything here already. Does anyone have any insight as to what could fix this problem? Thanks.

Have you tried with Firefox too?Is there any firewall running?if yes,disable it and see if the problem remains.

The titles says any browser..... that includes FF, I've tired all the obvious and not so obvious solutions, nothing worked.
