Hey everyone. Ok so i just built a brand new system, and everything works great except for internet access. For some reason, i cant view web pages very fast at all. I have high speed DSL line and can download files and music at around 300 kbs. When i try to load websites however, im constantly waiting 2 or 3 minutes before anything appears on my screen. This is very annoying and i cant figure out what the deal is. Please help!!!

oh btw, ive tried using MOzilla firefox and internet explorer. And my computer is top of the line...

Define"high speed DSL". What speeds are you supposed to get?

If your on something like Verizon's bargain DSL, it ain't really "high speed".

I have 1.5M down speed (don't remember my up). Here's the results of the same test:
Communications 999 kilobits per second
Storage 121.9 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 8.4 seconds
Subjective rating Good

I'd guess you have a 384Kbps connection, which is not very fast nowadays. If it takes long to find a wesite, you could try different DNS servers, but with everything set to "automatically" it should work fine.

Even with 320 odd kilobits per second you should still be seeing any website within 10-15 seconds tops id have thought?

Well here is the thing. I have 2 computers on my network. The one i just built goes really slow loading web pages, but my older one views them at a decent speed. Im supposed to be getting 750 kbs from SBC, but they said i live in an old neighborhood, and our old copper wiring in our street isnt sufficient for higher speeds (fiber optics is what they say is standard). Thats beside the point though... Im thinking its something in my computer thats not working right, like a bad driver for my integrated network card. I have the most updated one available though. Im behind a router too, with a static IP adress. Do i need to port forward anything for internet access??? thanks for any help

umm i am having slow internet problems and i have ran the tester and came up with:

41.5 kb/sec
Communications - 41.9 kb/sec
Storage - 5.1 kb/sec
1MB file download - 3.3 minutes
Subjective Rating - Slow

Date & time - Thursday, April 6, 1:06AM*
Test type - IDT4 Free
Connection type - Cable
Region - Illinois
Data size - 1024KB
IP address
Provider

and i am using internet explorer because i cant get firefox to download because it takes to long. i also have a 11 mb/sec pci card instead of a 54 mb/sec card if that makes a big difference.
