could someone please tell me the best way is to find devices connected to my internet as i have a feeling someone is using my internet.

Log into your router and look at the connected devices. That will tell you the IP and device name if it has one. But if you think you have a unauthorized user, I would definitely change your password and encryption while your logged in as well.

thanks for that great help

To prevent others from connecting to your network, you can assign a limited number of IPs. This way, you can make sure that you have only your devices linked to the WiFi.

as far as I am aware it is illegal in the UK to connect and use somebodies internet connection without authorisation.
And even more so if they have packet snooped and hacked the wireless key.
So if you do suspect that this is happening and have been able to find unregistered devices you can contact your ISP and ask them to help you confirm this, and if it is found to be true then they can raise it with the local authorities and have the person found and arrested.
I know it is a bit extreme, and changing the wireless key would stop anyone from connecting, but it is an option, as you never know they could be accessing paedo sites using your connection, and if it is your name on the bill, then you are legally responsible for the internet activity on you line, and could be blamed for such activity.

That's still up for debate in the US. Case in point; Somebody accessed a neighbor's open wifi network, and downloaded a copyrighted music file, which then was distributed on a file-sharing website. The musician was able to sue the homeowner for copyright infringement, even though he was on vacation when the illegal downloading took place.
But, a Buffalo, NY man was exonerated of all child pornography possession and distribution charges after it turned out his neighbor accessed his open wifi network without his permission.
So in the US, it's still a mix bag of results. So to be safe, PUT A FREAKING PASSWORD ON YOUR FREAKING ROUTER PEOPLE!!!

If there's a password, then it's illegal. If it's an open network, there's no real way to prove that you let the user on or not (unless a mock-contract was made up and signed or something).
