Hello, so we have 4 computers on our home network hooked up to a router that goes out to the internet. The problem is whenever we run a search via google, yahoo, or any search engine on certain words or phrases it comes up with the page can't be displayed error. This only happens when we do a search with "sex" or "porn" in the word or phrase. Even if the letters appear in the middle of a word.

Also, if the words, or letters appear as part of a web address, such as www.sexistviews.com, it will come up with the page can't be displayed error.

I'm guessing there must be some sort of filter in place either on the router or with our ISP (cox communications). Also, I don't have the admin password to the router. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks for the help.

I will go out on a limb here and guess you are a teenager, wanting to be able to surf the net for free porn?

Yes, there is a filter in place. It would either be in the browser, on the computer(s), or a third party working with/through your ISP. Cox does not filter traffic (that I know of), but so services act as a buffer between the ISP and your connection.

If it is a third-party service, you won't get around it. If it is on the computer(s) or in the browser, you won't get any help here as the filters are there for a reason.

Hello,

This is a filter put in place not by the ISP but by your parents. It is there for a reason and we can not help you bypass it.

Cheers,
Mak

Well, we are re-doing the network this weekend. We'll see if replacing the router fixes it. It can't be on the browser's because it doesn't work on my friends laptop here, but works fine when she's at home. I personally think there's a filter on the router.

To be honest, I discovered the problem when I was working on some assignments for a sociology class, I couldn't look up some information on the topics at home, I had to do the work from school. Not a big problem though since school is across the street though. And if I feel so inclined there's plenty of other words that work if I cared to look at that stuff. But I can't even read a wiki article on the history of sex.. I even spelt supercalifragilisticexpialidocious wrong and got the error... its simply annoying, and doesn't stop anyone from accessing inappropriate material as other, more vulgar, words still work.

Oh, and there's no parents involved, just 4 bachelors renting a house.

Hello,

Yes it would be a filter added to the router then. Depending on which browser you use. Some browsers do not have add in but extensions or filter added on. Have you tried to reset the router to factory settings?

Cheers,
Mak
