Need to block all or most porn

Jesus, you need to block porn. Good luck, I hope you can hack the Interweb my good sir. I remember this school that had a porn problem, contacted me to stop it. I told them "it can't be stopped, get rid of your Internet" then hung up.

Not true. We filter the internet here and porn is blocked almost 100%. The only thing that will show up is a posted picture or video on a website that does not usually carry such content. Like if you do a Yahoo image search for something and one of the returns is a naked woman or something that isn't filtered, but if you click it, the site it goes to is blocked. We can't even go to YouTube here or MySpace or anything like either of those. We block explicit content, gambling, dating, games, etc. We have very few problems with virus attacks as well. And the PC's that are the usual suspects for the virus attacks get extra restrictions via proxy server. They can only go to sites that the corporate IT guys say they can go to. It's a difficult process but it can be done.

They try to block those too. As much as possible, but it's impossible to block every one. But we have few savvy users here that would even know about proxies anyway. This is a hospital, we don't have computer geeks here. Most users are scared of the computer anyway.

oh i thought you were at a school. why are you trying to restrict what the patients view?

i know that my school had everything blocked and the pnly way to get around it was using a proxy they hdnt seen before, but if you were caught using one, you got expelled

Nurses that have nothing to do at night, or when we have few patients. They will surf rather than do paperwork, dust their desk, etc.

Bah, I call it bull. If there's a way around it, they will find it. At a school you know how it goes. I went to a 354 person school, my graduation year, 354 people in the middle AND high school. When I figured it, I didn't do it, I told them HOW to do it.

Trust me, you can't block everything. What, you got some packet viewer, views the pixels in every image trying to find out if it's the "real thing" or not. That don't work.

Now, next, what about blocking each porn site manually, porn sites are added every day, what you gonna do about that sucka.

You cannot block everything. True.

Where I work we have a VERY tight series of proxy servers that are constantly updated. They block lots of things. (including web-proxies) Anything that they deem is not necessary for work use, they block. Sometimes they block too much and need to pull back. But, it works. ****, one of the games we play is trying to find games that aren't blocked then see how long we can access them before they are.


And lets not forget about all sorts of trojans, spyware, malware and other goodies that could get free run of a network because someone is bored late at night and accidentally stumbles onto the wrong site. This sort of thing is taken very seriously. Much more so that "it can't be stopped, get rid of your Internet"
