MSN Messenger

My friends use this, but I won't because I don't trust microsoft. (Eventough I have WinXP )
Are there any alternatives, preferably something that is compatible with users of MSN ?

File transfers and such aren't necessary, only messaging.

If possible, I wan't a small program with no installation needed so it won't make anything funny into register.

Just get msn messenger, there's nothing to worry about. Actually getting trillian is more dangerous than msn messenger.

I have been using Trillian for quite some time now. Its way better than Gaim. Get Trillian www.ceruleanstudios.com

if your using more than one IM, then use trillian.. otherwise stick with msn/ur im ur using

If you want to try something new. May I sggest you go to java and try Qnext. This if so far ahead of everything that is out there. It has everything from video conferencing to file transfers - you name it. Take a peak - there's lots there.
