Mozilla Firefox 2 Will Be Released Oct. 24
All of you FireFox fans can rejoice in knowing that version 2.0 is expected to be released October 24th.



Not to be outdone by Microsoft's recent release of Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla will release the second major version of its rival Firefox browser on Tuesday, October 24.

Wow, there won't be much time between the RC3 release and the final version. Granted, I had heard rumors that the RC3 release was going to be the final version, so I guess it's not too surprising that the two are so close together.

Firefox 2.0 is due to be released on Tuesday. Availability of the next edition of the open source browser follows the (also) delayed release of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft's market leading proprietary alternative, last week.

Firefox 2.0 boasts a raft of new features including an integrated in-line spell checker, as well as an anti-phishing tool, tightly-integrated search, and improvements in tabbed browsing. Mozilla published the "almost ready" Release Candidate 3 version of the browser last Tuesday (17 October).

The final release of the software package, which weighs in at around 5MB, will be available in 39 languages for systems running Windows, Mac and Linux computers from getfirefox.com from Tuesday (24 October).

Firefox 2.0 Final Release?
There is no word on the official Firefox site yet but Mozilla is hosting a new Firefox 2.0 download that is not designated as a “release candidate”. There is a version for Windows and a version for Linux available so far. I would exercise a bit of caution before using this version until you hear something official from Mozilla and the Firefox team. Adventurous souls can start downloading now.
