Hi
do you know what the difference between a mobile website and a normal website is

e.g. the bbc site for us land access users is
http://www.bbc.co.uk

whereas for mobile users it is
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile

is there a difference in the content or isthere major difference in the formatting

cause i can view the bbc mobile site on my desktop and i am no pretty sure i can view stuff on my mobile PDA which is non mobile.

perhaps the site is generic in content, i think the mobile might fall over if it sees frames and stuff

mobile devices usually have their own restrictions which are usually limited because of the browser fucntionality.

example i have a treo 300 smartphone. i cannot properly function on a page with javascript as its not supported by the browser.

Typically on mobile websites, the page will be formatted differently and possibly images removed/minimal.

But your still connected to the same network. pages downloaded to a desktop or mobile can come from the same source/server/setup

so one will be downloading different set of pages geared towards a mobile. though there are no restrictions in trying to download a page geared towards pc's. and the amount of the page being downloaded would be dependent on the mobile phone's browser. correct?

what i think happens is when im on my phone browsing the internet, the server knows that im using a mobile device so it redirects me to their mobile pages for a more pleasant inet experience. Typically, i think this only happens when i try to access the top level of the domain, like browsing to www.yahoo.com redirects me to mobile.yahoo.com.

all pages should be completely downloaded to mobile devices. However, you may run into problems where the browser can't render the page.
