firefox and sessions

It seems weird to me that when I log in to a site ( like a university site) the session isn't destroyed in firefox, even after I close the browser, I reopen and it allows me to enter without any authentication. I find this weird from a browser famous for its security.

Anybody know a fix to this?

there should be a log off button. that should take care of it.

correct, there should be a log off button, but that's not enough

some sites don't have a log off option (my university site is an example) it authenticates using a pop screen rather than a page, so in order to end the session it requires me to close the browser (in IE anyway) in firefox, the session still exists. The only way the session is destroyed is when a certain amount of time elapses (maybe 30 mins in my case)
