cannot open PDF's

Im on my sisters computer and she is running XPhome and her browser is firefox. my problem is that whenever trying to open a pdf, acrobat opens but shows the error

"cannot use adobe reader to view PDF in your browser. reader will now exit. please exit your browser and try again."

i have tried updating acrobat, then i totally uninstalled and installed the newest version.
any ideas??

I suggest you download the pdf to your desktop for example. Then open from the desktop. (To download just right-click on the link and choose save target as).

You can also try http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader_2/down_reader.htm

Then configure firefox (tools>options>content>manage) to make foxit the default pdf reader.

Tools > Options > Content > Manage... > change your associations for PDFs to Acrobat Reader itself.

alright got it to open into the actual acrobat app...except there was no "manage" so i checked around and found what i needed under "download>view and edit actions"
newer version??
