Is there really any way to prevent people from illegally downloading media from the internet?

as in generally,like nowadays downloading songs/movies is illegal and may get caught..fine,jail.so my question is,is there any way this can be prevented/stopped?

if it was easy to stop then there wouldn't be so many lawsuits and actions to prevent it.

If you mean someone was using your comp to download things you didn't want them too then yeah you can, using a guest account for them to use and limit what they can do by using the firewall to block torrent and peer 2 peer file sharing programs.

No not at the moment theres always something waiting to take over such as when supernova died there was a raft of other sites that appeared. The law suits are a scare tactic and dont work, and most actions against the illegal websites take ages due to the servers being hosted in countries where international laws dont come into affect.

the problem is bittorrent has a very legal and useful purpose which is used even more, so they cant just go after bittorrent itself just after the downloaders and hosting websites.

it seems so its hard to police something which is free to use for everyone and where law in different countries restricts prosecution and prevention.

What was the purpose in this discussion? , and yes even when the sites do get shut down they just get a new server and their off again ... , also their usuall just ip's so they just get a new static
