Annoying ass Ads in AIM

I use an older AIM (v. 5.5.3583) and there is an annoying as F*CK Flash advertisement that comes on and off that is embedded at the top of the buddy list. Is there anyway to deactivate this piece of shit? I like this version of aim because I can "Link" screen names, which the previous version don't support, which is why I don't want to install something else. I'm also not interested in Gaim or Trillian or something like that, so no need to offer that. Thanks!

Unfortunately that's what most of my friends use. I still use ICQ and it is my #1 favorite, but it seems hardly anyone uses it anymore... and my friends are too lazy to try to learn how to use it..

i agree.

i am getting tired of so many messengers out there. they all need to work cross all networks.

until then though i am going to only use trillian.

You can disable them and you will be fine. Go to Setup, Preferences, notifications, uncheck everything, close AIM, reopen it and your finished.
