You can't get one for free. You can get them for less than 10 dollars a year though.

Even if you could get one free, don't! They would probably register the domain in their name and hold it for ransom at a later time.

Just Google cheap domains and save yourself the hassle and trouble.

I get the feeling you might not have a credit card so ask someone nicely who trusts you if you can have them purchase it for you and then you pay them back in cash

There's no more 100% free with no banners. But you can find many that have catches (ads, pay after 1 year, etc...)

I suggest godaddy. There are a few that are a little bit cheaper, but they really don't compare to godaddy's control panel and customer service (if you ever need it). The final price at godaddy (without any discounts or deals) is usually $9.20/year (including ICANN fee).
