I would use SMF (simple machines)
It looks good, has easily installed plugins and is powerful. I like it over phpbb2. Here is an example with firefox theme: www.troop16.us

I can give you a account with my hosting service for the forum cheaply if you would like... SMF can be installed automaticly through Fantastico.
