why?

Because we like it.

Why would someone choose Windows over a Mac? Or Windows over Linux, which is better and FREE?

"No0btacular..."

If you are asking why Mac users like to use Mac OS X more than they would Windows XP, that is a question that requires too many answers. That isn't allways the case. However, This is how the a portion of the Mac world feals about Windows...

1. Mac OS has always used GUI, and recognizes files via resource fork instead of by the end of a file name.

2. Mac OS never uses command lines. (at least not most of the time lol)....

3. Windows was based on DOS, which didn't even have a password-protected login, and had a very legendary lack of security that scars Microsoft to this day.

4. People simply donÂ’t like Microsoft.

5. Mac OS looks better (based on opinion. lol)

6. Microsoft is lazy and doesn't like to put in work as much as it likes to get money. (All - a-bout dat dollar biiiiiiiiiLL)

7. OS X doesn't get viruses yet, and there are some people who don't like being Raped by the internet. Mac users i guess just aren't "Into" that kind of thing. Idunno.

I hope you know that this isn't worth arguing about. There are always these N00bs who like to argue about Macs being better than PCs, and PCs being better than Macs... It's all just a bunch of noobjuice.

Any EDUCATED COMPUTER USER will tell you... Macs and PC are NOT BETTER THAN EACH OTHER!! Neither are better than the other, and all who deny this fact is Noobular and doesn't know anything about the computer world.

does that answer ur question?:D

Right, because both is good for what they do.
@The General: Linux may be a better OS for whatever you do, but I don't want to play my games on emulators, or anything like that. (Of course, there are games made for Linux, but I'd have to buy them all again(Or in this case pirate them, but nobody seeds Linux games :())

Windows is just more userfriendly. Not everybody is a member of tech-forums :(

Windows MORE user friendly? Surely you jest.

How many times have I had Windows crash? More than I can count, several fatally. OS X? None. At all.

Which boots faster, Windows or OS X? OS X. And my machine is 1.5 times MORE crippled than the laptop (and nearly twice as crippled as the desktop) that I tested against.

Which looks better? Do I really need to answer this question, or should I just keep asking them?

I hope you're getting the point.

You wouldn't have to buy all the games again, you get the installer, and a Windows version of the game, and it will copy some game files and you're set.

And UT2004's Windows version actually has the Linux installer on the disc.

Windows crashing, and bootup speeds do not have anything to do with Windows user friendlyness, and looks is an opinion. My Windows looks very nice.

And are you able to do this with every game? Because I don't think installing it is all the problem. At least from what I heard, you had to use emulators to play a bunch of games (Could anybody confirm this, or anything =\)
None of that console stuff, easier interface I guess.. But just my 2 cents, maybe others feel differently.

Windows crashing and bootup speeds have nothing to do with Windows user friendliness? Surely you jest.

If I had a friend who looked nice and did what I told him to, but got started doing it slower than another friend of mine, don't you think our relationship would be strained a little bit. Also, if he got frustrated doing the task, and threw all the materials at the wall, shattering them, but my other friend did it in record time with nothing broken, which would I spend more time with?

Okay, there are lots of commercial games for Linux, but more commercial games for Windows. The ones that are Windows-only, yes, you will need an emulator, but it's not exactly an emulator .. It's an opensource implementation of the Windows API. Technically speaking, the programs run natively.

The other games, the ones that are FOR Linux do not require an "emulator" and run natively in Linux. These include ALL www.idsoftware.com games, and all the Unreal Tournament series, among others. This is because UT and all ID games use OpenGL, NOT DirectX. DirectX is the Windows-only thing that makes the games hard to get working in Linux. OpenGL is open source and can be used anywhere.

Both Mac and PC have their advantages and disadvantages. It's good to see each specialises in their own field. At the moment, if your a gamer you'd find it a bit more difficult if you didn't have Windows. I think Apple's move to allow Windows to be installed on the Macs was a pretty good move. Now, as many have stated, you can get the best of both worlds. Mac OSX is easier to use but can also limit users. Windows is a more cluttered in the sense of the start menu, file system etc but you can access basically everything. It depends on what you want.

I am hoping to buy an Intel Mac because I really like the iLife suite. I use Adobe Premiere Pro for editing my short films but if I'm doing a family video for instance, I want to do it quickly. iMovie is good for this, whereas MS's movie maker is very poor. Apple is better known for it's software and hardware quality. They basically make top of the range stuff. Since microsoft doesn't make it's own PCs, it's probably got a lot of hardware clashes with windows.

But... because windows 95 owned apple, it's kinda been Windows all the way. Apple had to start again and have probably only been decent since OSX came out. It will be interesting to see what happens when Vista comes out.

Anyway... overall, I reckon Apple is based on quality whilst MS is based on getting money and distributing their product. Didn't the XBOX have heat problems? It was released too early, to beat PS2. And now microsoft is trying to equal apple and enter things like photo editing and animation etc. Honestly, they are going to need to improve their operating system and work on things that matter before they expand.
