Could someone give me the benefits of choosing a Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0Ghz CPU chip against a mac chip for use in a multimedia environment.

And maybe why a Pentium 4 PC is better than a mac for a company specialising in multimedia ?

I appreciate Macs are probably better but there must be some reasons technically and otherwise why people would choose a PC ?

Thanks in anticipation

Brett :)

Bang for the $$ and better software availabilty.Hardware availabilty too, PC's can use readily available off the shelf hardware.Macs can too to an extent but its a small list which means big $$.

If I were you I wouldnt buy a Prescott chip just yet. I recommend the AMD Athlon64 series. Other than that, answering your question would just be reciting the same old rhetoric youve heard a million times when people compare macs and PC's, so Im not going to bother with it.

People choose PC's because:

1) They are used to using them from previous experiences.
2) PCs are easier bought because they are sold in many stores beyond computer stores.
3) PC's, honestly, are faster, though they are only in the high end chips.

Buy a PC if you want, I just recommend AMD over Intel if you can do it.

how about if i use a p4 extreme chip which is fab or video editing and converting video to dvd ?

amd64 series - there is no software out for that yet that will take advantage of its 64 bit stuff is there ?

where as the extreme chip will use hyper threading etc ?

If you can afford the Extreme edition P4's, go for them, but the best bang for your buck lies in the Athlon64 series.
