It was working last week, now I need my optical drive to burn a project, and it's not there. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, etc... no dice. Windows says it's corrupt or missing. Of course I can't reload the original drivers, because I don't have an optical drive to put the disk in.
Found out that it had gone missing due to uninstalling iTunes. Reinstalling iTunes restores the driver... So much for losing that waste of disk space.
Issue resolved.
