I have a macbook about four years old. Last night i managed to get it on and it was working fine. now today i turned it on the start up screen came on then froze. I have tryed every thing including checking the ram hdd ect but the thing still wont power on. any body any help i would greatly appreciate it?

Is it an original MacBook or is it the updated unibody white macbook?

If it's an original MacBook, my money is on the hard drive. They are prone to failure.

If resetting the PRAM doesn't fix it (instructions are listed in the link above) then it's bricked. You will need a boot disk of some kind to get into the disk utility to verify/repair any problems.

Short of that, you'll need a new hard drive.

OK then it's very likely that your hard drive is toast. You can take it to a service center to verify, but I'm pretty certain that is the case.

For what it's worth, I have an original Black MacBook as well and I replaced the drive with a 7200RPM refurb from newegg for $30. So a solution is not expensive.
