how to set defaults

Does anyone know how you set a program as your default profram. I have NeoOffice right now but my computer tries to open everything up in Apple text reader or something like that and I don't know how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

Find the file you want to open, right click (or Control-click) go to Open With, then Other.... Select the app you want to open it with, then select the "Always use this" checkbox.
