I went to turn on my G4 tower (466mhz) after it crashed to find it would not turn back on. I am thinking a dead power supply is the cause.

I went online to find a replacement and found the same model for $190, a price I do not want to pay.

Instead, I'd like to buy a standard PC power supply for much less. I would go with a good quality company like Antec. Would it work?
Does it matter if the voltage and wattage of the new power supply matches that of the old one?

From what I know, the G4 is not covered by warranty anymore.

No, you can't just put any PSU in it, because Apple rearranges the pins on their PSUs (just like most other proprietary computer makers...gah). I agree with Ste; call Apple and see what they can do for you, or, if there's an Apple store nearby, you could try asking them about it.

Listen to Ste... I would call apple the second that happened. Sorry dude, that sucks.
