Apple Offers Support for MacBooks with Failing Nvidia GPUs

The same mobile GPU problem that is affecting other manufacturers is being acknowledged by Apple as affecting several models of the MacBook. Apple will repair a faulty MacBook free of charge if the Nvidia GPU is failing or has failed and will refund users who already had the repairs done.

The affected notebooks include several MacBook Pro models: the 17-inch notebook, with a 2.4-GHz CPU; the 15-inch model, with either a 2.2-GHz or 2.4-GHz CPU; and MacBook Pros shipped in early 2008. All told, the affected MacBook Pros were manufactured between May 2007 and Sept. 2008, and all contain an Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip.

as a side note this will only effect some pole with certain models of the macbook pro the ones produced before September 07 will get no repair at all as the firmware that is causing the problem is after the 12 months warinty.

The are still not adressing the MacPro's an iMacs with other firmware issues.
