So next week I'm going to get an iPhone through Virgin Mobile. And was wondering would the apple care be worth getting. or just get a nice case to save money.

Warranties, in my mind, are completely up to who's buying the product.
AppleCare+ , is just like insurance with other cell providers. Except, instead of a monthly fee, it's a 1-time charge with a $50 deductible if you break your phone (up to 2 times).
All in all, it's completely up to you.
