i think this is the right place for this thread. what is the htp:/www. this stand for. ITS SO ANNOYING. why can't we just type "tech-forums". i hate Bob. oh yea. and has this internet every crashed?

HTTP - HyperText Transfer Protocol

www - the name for the web server in the domain tech-heaven.com

www = world wide web

And NO, "Bob" did NOT make the internet. The internet was originally developed by the US Military as a way to have redundant communications in the 1970's.

Actually, his name is William "Bill" Gates and he is the co-founder of Microsoft. He is the richest man in the planet, all because he has millions (if not billions) of shares in Microsoft.

HoLoCroN's right. The first version of the internet was called DARPANet, after the government agency that dreamed it up.

I thought BILL owned microsoft, is BOB his big brother?

Mostly true but he aint the richest anymore the guy who started and owns IKEA is now officially the richest man in the world... i read it in the paper a few days ago... can't remember his name though!

As stated above the http portion stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. Your browser, or most browsers are capable of handling many protocols such as ftp. Anything before the :// is a protocol hence http://.

To my knowledge the Internet has never completely crashed, however very large sections have crashed due to backbone failures.
