Wireless setup help

my current setup
Modem>>>wireless router>>>wired switch

Right now i am too far away from my wireless router to get a constant strong signal, but i have an Ethernet cable running to my room. I have a wired switch in my room that goes to my computer, tv, xbox, etc. I would like to do something so that i have wireless in my room too. i dont really have a good spot to put a wireless repeater, so would it be best to plug a WAP to my switch? i dont really have a great knowlefge of the difference between range extenders and APs ether. Tell me what you think

the repeater would relay traffic over the air to the router. a access point would relay the traffic through the uplink port on a wired connection.

a wap would suffice.
