I have two pc's and a lap top at home. I am in need of a wireless router. Is there a difference between these two netgear routers, other than the transfer rate?

I am new with wireless network. I have built a few wired networks, they are much simplier. But the two pc's i plan on connecting by cat5e, and the lap top by the wireless. Is this everything I need? Can I also connect to other wireless networks with this router?

Thanks for any help.

They are basically the same except the WGR614 is 802.11g (54Mbps) and the MR814 is 802.11b (11Mbps). You can connect your two PCs to either of these with Cat 5 and the laptop via wireless (I am assuming that you have a wireless card in the laptop).

No, this router (or any other router) cannot connect to other wireless networks via wireless.

The wireless adapter in your laptop is what connects to a wireless network. If there is one available thats not secured, your lap top will be able to connect to it if its the same type of signal. The wireless router IS the wireless network, it transmits the wireless signal for the wireless adapter in you laptop to recognize and connect to. Anyone with a computer with a wireless adapter on the same signal(and is in range) will be able to connect to your wireless network if you don't secure it.

So there isnt a way to daisy chain wireless routers?

I couldnt connect to my friend's wireless router nextdoor?
No. One device needs to act as a client to the other. Routers are not able to act as a client. You would need an access point or wireless bridge and a router to do what I think you are trying to do.
