I though it was the router, but now I am not so sure. I can connect to the net wired up to the routed but not wireless. This makes me think that the problem lies with the wireless adapter.

I will mention that I have windows xp pro sp2 and have up to date os. I also have up to date drivers for my wireless adapter which is a BN-WD54G made by BlueNEXT.

Here is the copy/paste from ipconfig /all in cmd, note "media disconnected";

Hello,

Specifically, at what stage do you encounter a problem?

Does your computer recognise your wireless device - are there any reported problems about the device in device manager?

Can you use Windows XP's wireless zero configuration to search for available networks?

I see that at time of running ipconfig, you had your computer connected to a network via ethernet. Have you tried connecting to a wireless network with your ethernet adapter disabled in network connections?

I plugged in the wireless adapter and installed fine. No problem in device manager. I can use zero configs to search for networks, but nothing shows up, plugged in or not.

Hello,

I see. Have you tested the wireless adapter on a different computer, ideally located in a different room?

Have you tried changing the wireless channel in the router's settings?

Could all this be because the router is not set up properly, because on a pc in a different room I have another wireless adapter and I am getting the same problem, cant find network. Yet when fiddling around with settings for the router, at times both adapters did find the network.

??

SOLVED

Called Tiscali, actually amazingly helpful. took 5 mins to sort out.

Log onto the router ip in IE, thenin the Basic Wireless settings, turn auto channel to disable.

Thats it.

Thanks for your help.
