wireless is not working

Hi, my new high speed cable modem was installed this weak and the wireless is not working and the manufactures help staff is less than helpful. Every thing else is fine however, the wireless is not working, I see the ESSID on my laptop but no signal. The indicator light for the wireless is orange, if that helps.
