I have a 2wire wireless modem/router combo right now but would like to upgrade to a 10/100/1000 one. Can anyone steer me in the right direction what I should look for. I have a DSL connection from AT&T.

wireless doesn't work on the 10/100/1000 speeds, that's just wired connections. Wireless speeds can't go as high as 1000mbps yet, the 50-100mbps mark is what wireless cards usually operate around. I haven't done anything wireless for a while now though, so speeds might have gone up a tad.

Understood. But would it not add bandwidth to all my wired connections? This is what I am most concerned about anyway.

Your wired connections will be fast. First all wired computers need to have gigabit lan. If they do your file transfers between computers will be fast. Your internet speeds will not be any faster than they currently are.

Here's the basic deal. if your computers are all gigabit capable, and are connected through a switch, router or hub which is also gigabit capable you will have 1000mbps connections from pc to pc.

BUT if the device through which you access the internet (router or modem) is only capable of 100mbps, then all data passing through it will travel at a max of 100mbps.

HOWEVER, todays 'normal' (heck, even awsome) internet speeds are not remotely as fast as standard networks, even at 100mbps. A 100mbps network will easily handle any traffic from your internet link without slowing it at all.

Even fast high speed internet will run between 10mbs to 20mbs. As a result having 1000mbs network speeds cannot do anything to speed that up.

It is like having a car that will go 200mph but due to laws you can only drive it a 55mph.
