Currently have a wired router for a pc, a tv and various gaming consoles. All are hooked up by ethernet cables. The PC and tv are hooked up directly from the wired router. The gaming consoles are run by a single ethernet cable hooked up to a switch port that connects to 3 gaming systems in another room. Want to have a wireless connection for a laptop that is near the switch port. Can a wireless router be used at the switch box? If so, how? Any other suggestions for a wirleless connection? Also, the wireless is just for the laptop and want to be able to use the laptop at the same time as the other wired connections are being used. Thank you for your help.

Yup, a router can be used. If you already have a router, just make sure to turn the new router's DHCP off and change it's own IP (if you buy the same router you already have, they all come with the same IP address). The ports on the back essentially work like a switch.

What you could do though is just buy an Access Point (instead of a router) and plug it into the switch. Will probably save you some money.
