my wireless router is set up and is protected with 128 bit WEP password.. however it never asks for the password when connecting.

any one have any idea why this is

Hello,

WEP and WPA are both wireless encryption standards. They don't apply to physical ethernet connections.

i did set them from the router page...and my bad the title was supposed to say wireless network... LOL any way the ecrytion password is set the admin password also, and the protection is turned on... it just doesnt ask for the password when you attempt to connect to the network

If you've already put in the password once, it saves it on your computer. Any new users to the network would be required to input the WEP key. Either that, or you're not connecting to the right network. Or you just didn't set up security correctly.

As Lorithad said its a one time input of the wep pass, then it is saved for that specifc computer(ip address). Only new pc's which have not accessed the network have to enter the wep pass.
