Why so much spam?

My forum keeps getting spammed with mainly Russian posts. Can I disable Russian posts because my forum is English only? Also what are some anti-spam measures I can take? The forum uses PHPBB.

phpBB is a huge target for spammers. May have to head over to the phpBB dev forums and see what kind of add-ons / techniques they used as I'm not very familiar with phpBB.

ANY forum of social media always has and always will be a target for spammers.

Personally, I would prefer to put a bullet in the back of the head of every spammer. But since I do not have that ability we have to be content with whatever countermeasures we can use.
