Why cant i get internet on other comp?

Hey all. I just posted asking why internet on my other computer restarts every few minutes. I downloaded Mozilla cuz people say its safer. I also have some virus/spy ware that cant get deleted.

So, i downloaded Mozilla and AVG and now i dont get an internet connection, wtf is wrong with my comper?!.

Any suggestions? Should i reformat/reinstall my whole computer?

Reformat is a good solution.
But u can always try more spyware killers/antvir stuff first. Try spysweeper. Also disable your firewall

How do i go about reformating?

You can format with your XP cd.

Insert the XP disc (make sure the BIOS is configered to use the CD-rom as primary boot device)

"press any key to boot from disc...."

So doing that will let me uninstall everything and start from scratch?

I put in my XP cd, the window came up with, Installing XP, Optional XP etc.


So, i hit Install XP, and now i can choose Upgrade (Which keeps file intact) or New Installation (which "loses" all files and programs).

Do i do New Installation?

depends on what you want. I prefer a clean installation (lose all files)
You will have to format the harddisk if you select "new".

you can try an upgrade first and see if it fixes your problems.

What does re-format the harddisk mean and require?

Is that complicated? I will do upgrade while you respond.

Format basically means you delete all files on the partition (C: or any other partition)

Its an option in XP setup, you can choose to format before you install XP. If you do not format it will do an upgrade replacing all system files.

So if i do "New Installation", it will delete all my files/programs i installed and i will need to reinstall the ones i want?
