Vista LAN/Cable modem Connection Problems

An IP of all zeros would indicate to me the NIC is either dead, dying or drivers are corrupt. An IP starting with 169 tells me you need drivers. An address starting with 192 usually means you are getting an IP from your router. I agree with earlier posts that you have a driver problem. Have you been able to ping 127.0.0.1?

ok, so Charter came out to "fix" this internet problem. I was at work so i dont know what they did, but they got the xp desktop working. They said that a lot of people were experiencing problems with cable internet and vista. Im leaving now to go buy a flash drive to transfer those files so that i can update the drivers. hopefully that helps. The guy from charter also said that the reason the router doesnt work is that the ip address needs to be reconfigured. Let me know what all that means to u guys.

Really? Cable internet and Vista have trouble. Wow. News to me. I run Both cable and Vista yet i dont have any issues. I must be lucky....

Install Guys will always say that cause they do not know how to use the OS. they know how to install. Period. They are not technical at all.

Unplug the router and modem. Turn off the Vista PC. Plug in the router first. Then the modem. Then turn the PC back on. This will allow the router and modem to connect to each other. That should allow Vista to recognize them as well.

If Vista still can not get a IP. Start>Run>Cmd

Do a IPConfig release and renew.

ok, so the problem was not fixed. Also, the link to the driver update didnt work and i was unable to transfer it to my flash drive. Should i post a copy of my ipconfig log?
