Upgrading from dial-up to dsl or cable?

Can anyone tell me if these speeds are good- offered by optimum online. -4996/816 kbit down/up

Depending on the price they are asking that's very good speeds. (DSL or cable, btw?)

first 6 months 24$ then 44$ for allready cable customers and 49 $ if not subsribed and this is cable optimum online =cablevision

i have question about satellite, i thought i read somewhere that when u have satellite u also have like a phone line connection as well, like this, say i want to go to yahoo, well the phone line connection will tell yahoo to start sending the shti but then the isp sends the data thru the satellite and the phone connection is only used to like open connections and other very low bandwidth deals because of the lower latency, i have no experience with satellite so i was curious if its all like this or this is the old way of doing it etc.
