We have a toughbook Cf-74 on our network which cannot connect to the internet for more than 10mins after a reboot.

The machine cannot be pinged from anymachine nor can it's shared drive be seen by us administrators.

the strange thing is that it recieves its emails from the Exchange server but cannot gain access to the internet. Cannot ping web adresses also.

All the settings are ok too, TCP/IP etc as it has followed a corporate build about a year ago.

The machine was working fine before the guy went offshore, been working fine for over a year.

can anyone help as we r stumped here and seriously considering a fresh install.

yeah all those settings are fine.

we even took it off the Cisco switch and added it to our 3Com one and still nothing.

We tried the laptop into a different port and vice versa and still the same problems occur.

hm...well if ipconfig shows all the correct data other possible causes could be:

1.spyware,virus,trojan (solution run warez monsters guide in my sig)

2.hardware fault motherboard issue if using LAN.

3.run check disk on hard drive and hard drive manufactures utilities

Also are you connecting via Ethernet or Wireless?

Check for firewall/anti-virus problems. Bad network card, corrupt TCP/IP stack.

If this is the only computer on the switch having this problem, than it's easier to pin point.

Can it ping the loopback address?

ping localhost
then
ping 127.0.0.1

The machine can ping 127.0.0.1 but we are still unable to access it's shared drive and ping it from another machine.
