Hello All.

I am using TightVNC and I need help with my port fowarding.
Right now, it can work between the two desktops here at home
connected with our linksys wrt54g router; this computer wired
and the other wireless.

This is what I want to do.

Our school has the TightVNC Software on every one of its computers
and i was wondering if there is a way I can connect from the school
computer and control my home computer? How would I set up the port fowarding for that? Or what would I need to do???

THanks for the help!

I believe the default ports are 5800 and 5900 (both TCP), so forward those in your router. I don't own any Linksys products so I can't tell you specifically what to do in the web config, but it's pretty self-explanatory.

Okay. I got my Public ip address which comes from my ISP.

I was on the basement computer (wireless) to see if it can connect to my computer with that public ip address and it did.

Well my mom had some internet problems with that desktop computer with wireless so i unplugged the router for about a minute and plugged it back in and everything works now except the vnc.

I didnt change any settings nor any passwords and i tried accessing it again from downstairs to my computer using the 192.168.1.101 address and also trying my public ip address and both failed.

What happened? I rechecked the website and the ip address didnt change. Why cant it connect now? What did I do wrong?

Thanks Again!

Your router's port forwarding settings probably got reset and/or it assigned the computer a new IP address. Go make sure the port forwarding is set up with the computer's new internal IP.

OK.. Heres how my two computers are set up:

Desktop 1 (Basement computer)
Ip address: 192.168.1.100

VNC Settings:
Under server tab, the ports used are: 5900 (main) and 5800 (HTTP)
Note: I can connect to this computer from mine

-----
Desktop 2 (My Computer)
Ip address: 192.168.1.101

VNC Setting
Under server tab, the ports used are: 5901 (main) and 5801 (HTTP)
Note: I cant connect to this computer from the basement system

-----
Linksys Settings:
Application: TightVNC
Start: 5801
End: 5901
Protocol: Both (TCP & UDP)
Ip address: 192.168.1.101 (for my computer)
Enabled: Yes

Can anyone figure out whats wrong here?
