I have an issue with a laptop running Windows XP sp2, the user is a salesman and uses VPN and RAS quite often. The machine gets out ok and can access our network resources just fine but if you try to ping or access the machine from another machine it will fail.

Once the machine is rebooted you will be able to ping the machine briefly, once the machine has loged on you will fail to ping it, I thought that since it was "pingable" for a short time that it was a service failing, I checked out the event viewer and found 2 errors.

Event id 1002 - "The IP address lease <ip address> for the Network Card with network address <MAC address> has been denied by the DHCP server <server ip address> (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message)".

Event id 7024 - "The Computer Browser service terminated with service-specific error 2550 (0x9F6)".
