Some Applications Arent Able to Connect to a Remote Server as Needed

Some applications arent able to connect to the internet as needed. They are Google Updater, Flickr, and McAfee automatic update application. These programs have full access in the firewall. I was trying to download an application from downloads.com the other day, and the installer couldnt connect to the 3rd party server to complete the download. Usually I wouldnt have a problem with that. Whats the cause of these programs not being able to connect to the internet? Is it the settings in my firewall? If so, which settings should I modify? If not, what else in my laptop could be causing this problem and where do I find it? Thanks.


The error message I get when trying to download an application from downloads.com is:

Could not communicate to the network server, error 25.


What does that mean?

If SpyBot Search and destroy doesnt get rid of spyware I dont know what does. What would you recommend? Ive already used CCleaner to scan the registry. That didnt solve my problem though.
