I have my computer connected to the downstairs one via a crossover cable. I want to be able to share files and internet connection but the only trouble is i bothe computers can see each other but when i come to double click on downstairs computer from mine, it says "\\nealefamily is not accessable. You may not have permissions to use this resource"
so how do i set the permissions on the downstairs computer so my computer can access it?

\\nealefamily is the downstairs comps name btw

Make sure that you have no firewalls on, or that any firewalls allow the two comps to communicate (add them to your "trusted" zone as it is called in Norton.
Find out the IPs of the comps and make sure they can ping each other (which could also be blocked by firewall, but is generally less finiky than Windows networking) to eliminate connection issues.

I disabled all the firewalls and still i cant access the other computer but the other computer can access me, which is no good because its the other computer which has the internet i want to share.
