Here is my problem. I would love some suggestions if anyone has any.

I'm trying to setup a wireless router on a domain with static ip addresses, and I don't know where to begin.

I've messed with it all day to no avail.

The details

1. dell wireless router
2. dell laptop
2. domain with an address range of 10.10.5.0/255.255.255.224
3. Static IP
4. I can see the router, but I get no network resources or internet when it's on the IP range of 192.168.2.0
5. When I give the router an IP of 10.10.5.250 and the laptop an IP in the same range I can no longer see it or log into it and obviously no internet or net resources.
6. When I set it up on another section of the network that uses dynamic IPs and a different range of 10.10.1.0 it worked perfect so I assume the problem stems from the Static IP.

Some of this I'm sure sounds stupid, but I have very limited experience with wireless so any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

There are a few factors here that can be the problem. I need more info on your network to help out though. I am assuming a few things here. That because you have a domain you also have a DHCP server role in place somewhere? How are your current machines connection to the internet? Is there already a gateway/router in place?

By default most store bought routers (anything under $200) will come with DHCP enabled by default. You must disable this on the new wifi router. Assign its LAN IP address a static one of your current network IP scheme..most likely 10.10.5.XXX obviously on the same subnetmask.

Set its WAN IP address to dynamic as your current network should feed it the info ok. If there is another router in place though it can get fun real quick :)

10.10.5.0 & 10.10.5.250 are not on the same subnet with a 255.255.255.224 mask... The ranges with that mask would be:

10.10.5.0-10.10.5.31
10.10.5.32-10.10.5.63
10.10.5.64-10.10.5.95
10.10.5.96-10.10.5.127
10.10.5.128-10.10.5.159
10.10.5.160-10.10.5.191
10.10.5.192-10.10.5.223
10.10.5.224-10.10.5.256

Also, the first & last number in each range can't be used... Network address & Broadcast address.... You sure you had them in the same subnet?
