i am switching from dsl to cable....and the cable line has to connect to my cable box. it is 25' but my computer is atleast 30', and more like 40 without going through walls.
do any of you have longer lengths than 25' using a splitter or what not and are your rates affected?
what are my other options....getting a cable outlet installed in the room or a neighboring room. does the cable internet cord go into the back of the cable box or the cable outlet in the wall?
thanks

You have two options, you can either use a coupler and another coax cable (you can get these at any Radio Shack) to make sure the cable reaches your PC OR you can use a longer cat 5 network cable to make up the remaining distance. Simply plug the cable into the cable modem and connect your computer.

As far as integrity is concerned, coax can carry signals well into the hundreds of meters so an extra 10-20 ft won't degrade your signal.

Let us know what happens.

its takes a lot for a coax connection to "suffer" with the length of cable

yeah its shielded it should be good for more then 25'
I think it might be easier to make the cat5 cable longer. its a little easier to work with.
