Default set up a file server on arris surfboard 1900 modem?

my modem comes with the usb to plug in a thumb drive for filesharing on home network
i use it but i couldn't figure out if its possible to use that usb to set up a file server for myself when I'm not on my home wifi network

i want to be able to have a shortcut on all my PCs to access it from anywhere

kinda like dropbox but without having to upload files to someone elses server who promises secure storage....

i want to be able to also link photos to message boards from there

The manual makes it seem like it can only be shared locally.
