Hi all,
At work, we have a DHCP server, on a Windows Server 2003 R2 box. It works fine and serves 3 IP scopes (10.48.96.x, 97, 98).
We use a range of IPs from 10.48.96.x - 10.48.111.x. It's a flat network.
Here's my question. I'd like to put another 2003 DHCP server in a completely different physical building,(but part of the same network) on the site. This DHCP server will dish out 3 more IP scopes.
Now, I know with DHCP servers its all about contention. The client will receive an IP address from the first available DHCP server.
Therefore, is there a way to make sure that clients in building #2 only contact the DHCP in the SAME physical building without the use of reservation addresses? I don't want to install another DHCP server, only for it to sit there and be under-utilised.
VLANs are not an option as we did use them but they ended up being unweildy for our needs.
Thanks all.
