i have a usb wireless adapter that i bought a long time ago and installed on my wired machine just for kicks to see if it'd work. it did of course, but when it came up, it gave me a few choices of wireless networks within range. what would be in range in a residential community? just my neighbors wireless networks or something?

anyway, does that mean they can see mine? is there a way to "close" my connection? or is my signal available but my network itself is protected? is there a way to setup a password to get my signal or network?

any info appreciated.

WEP encryption, MAC address filtering, and turning off SSID broadcast are 3 main steps to securing a wireless network.
