Router resets when I use traceroute

I need to use tracert in command prompt for a school assignment. For some reason the router resets and temporarily disconnects everything everytime I use this command but reconnects soon after the command has been entered. It says hardware error in the command prompt window and the hop count doesn't get past my own computer. So I need to know how to fix this so I can get all the other hop counts to the destination. I'm sure there's some setting for it but I don't know what it is.

Sounds like the firewall is stopping it. Turn off the routers firewall and try it again.
