Router Problem

First off i have a Linksys 4-port Cable/DSL Router
Model no.:BEFSR41

The Router works with my old computer (win 98) when its connected with my PS2. But when i got a new computer (win XP), the router would work for a few minutes then just cut out. The internt and ethernet lights would be on but i would get no signal. I called my service provider and linksys but they were no help. I'm pretty shore it has to do with win Xp because a laptop i have does the same thing.

Any ideas?

i dont think theres a xp firewall.......if there is i would like to know about this ''firewall''.

There is an XP firewall.

Go to: Control Panel - Network and Internet Connections - Network Connections

Right click and select properties for the relevant nic.

Click on the advanced tab

You can enable it here and change the settings by clicking the settings button in the bottom right of the panel.

are you're IP's statis, or do they get set by DHCP?

^ eh?.. regardless the xp firewall is crap.. as long as you have your routers firewall on, they can't get into your box.. if you have the demetrialized zone on, then you must have the routers firewall on and you should have a software firewall as well..
