This has been frustrating me for a few hours now, I really suck at networking stuff, so ill get right to it here.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, have DSL from windstream going to a linksys router, with two computers (both wired) to the router. A day ago I lost internet service, so I called windstream and they fixed the issue. However, I can only connect using my modem, if I try to go through my router, I get zero connection. So I figured something must have changed in the router settings, I tried to access the router using 192.168.2.1, which has always worked for me, and I get a "Cannot display page" error. I tried resetting the router to factory settings, nothing changed.

Here is IPconfig/all for my computer/router.

usually the default ip of a linksys is 192.168.1.1 have you tried this to get into your router? If you restet the router you will need to go back in and set up your ppoe settings if that is what you use.

If you reset the router it should revert to 192.168.1.1 hmmm if you just connect the computer to the router without modem is it assigning you an ip? or are you getting a 169.x.x.x ip? Is your computer set up with a static ip or assigned from dhcp? usually when a router is 192,168.2.1 it has usually been set up that way to avoid conflicts if you modem is also a dhcp server.

It was set up for dhcp, I have reset the router I believe in the past and that setting was not changed, I was still able to use it.

I did try to use the original setup cd that came with it, after the general instructions it said the router could not be detected. Im thinking this is a hardware issue with the router.

first unhook the modem from the router do an ipconfig /renew from the command prompt.

u should pickup a 192.168.1.xx address but whatever it picks up go to the gateway address and that should be the linksys.

now hook direct to the modem and do the same command if u pick up any 192.168 ip addy the modem has probably reverted to router mode and you need to bridge it. :)

so when connected to the router there is no dhcp try resetting it by holding down the little button on the back.

and if thats the ip ur getting when connected to the modem then it is acting as a router, look online or call ur isp to find out how to bridge it

what happens when connected direct to the modem and u type 192.168.254.254 into IE?
